may have one for the asking, or if you can spread the word around with more copies send in $1 for 10 which will help cover the print- ing cost.) The last and most important result of the lectures was that in being ready for questions from the floor it forced me to think things out. I had to find a way to seperate and distinguish TVism from homosexuality in the public mind.
Semantics, or the science of the meanings as applied to words has long been of interest to me. It had become evident years ago that something was wrong when one could pick up a newspaper story or a magazine article with the word "transvestite" in the title and then find that the text was all about homosexuality; or to see in print such illogical and unscientific expressions as "a homosexual transvestite". Evidently there was (1) an enormous amount of con➜ fusion about things, (2) there wasn't any real communication going on, and (3) that the only way to continue the progress made and tą achieve the goals in mind was to wipe the slate clean of these ver- bal confusions and start again. That is, a name was needed for the kind of people that I had been publishing the magazine for. On e which would identify them for waht they ARE and distinguish them from what they ARE NOT and thereby reestablish some communication on the subject. This I proposed the technical name of the phenom- enon as FEMINIPHILIA (love of the feminine) and the individual be- comes thereby a FEMINIPHILE. But these are too scientific and med- ical sounding for. general use though they remain my choice for a properly descriptive medical designation.
In the search for some sort of name that could be comfortably abbreviated another factor began to be evident. If we were going to have a sorority, a pin and all that goes with it, we would find it necessary occasionally to explain to outsiders the significance of the whole thing. Therefore, there had to be an easy explanation that would satisfy the inquisitive without putting the member on the spot. Thus the word chosen would have to have an inner mean- ing to members of the sorority and yet have a broader and sensible and real meaning which could be given to others. This required a little doing, but I finally came up with the word FEMMEPERSONATOR as described in TVia #12 because it aptly describes the situation. The Feminiphile loves the feminine so much that he wishes to give life to the feminine portion lurking inside all men. He therefore, "PERSONATES" her--makes her a person and gives life and personality to his feminine self. The intent of the word is different from
